Join Us in Promoting Digital Skills and STEM Education in Croatia and Slovenia
We are inviting teachers, educators, mentors, programmers, and all digital enthusiasts to contribute to the expansion of the EU Code Week platform by submitting new EU Code Week Challenges!
This is your chance to design innovative and engaging activities that inspire creativity, and problem-solving, and promote gender equality in digital education — with a special focus on the Girls in Digital campaign.
What is an EU Code Week Challenge?
An EU Code Week Challenge is a creative and fun coding activity designed to develop problem-solving skills. It is intended for educators, students, and anyone interested in learning to code. These challenges promote learning through play, experimentation, and collaboration, making digital skills accessible to everyone.
Currently, there are 33 EU Code Week Challenges available on the platform, and we are looking for fresh ideas that encourage inclusive participation in coding activities.
How to Design an Inclusive Challenge?
When designing your challenge, consider how you can create an inclusive experience for girls, students from underrepresented groups, and beginners in coding. Here are some ideas to help you create a welcoming experience:
- Use gender-neutral and inclusive language to avoid reinforcing stereotypes about who belongs in tech.
- Highlight diverse role models by including examples of successful women and individuals from different backgrounds in technology.
- Design beginner-friendly activities that allow participants with various levels of experience to take part.
- Create challenges with social impact by addressing real-world issues that inspire meaningful participation.
What Should Your Challenge Include?
Your EU Code Week Challenge should include the following elements:
- Title – A clear and engaging title that reflects the challenge’s theme.
- Objective – A brief explanation of what participants will achieve or learn.
- Target Audience – Identify the ideal participants (e.g., primary school, secondary school, general public).
- Experience Level – Specify if the challenge is for beginners, intermediate, or advanced participants.
- Time Required – Estimate how long the challenge will take to complete.
- Materials and Tools – List all the necessary resources (e.g., software, hardware, or online tools).
- Step-by-Step Instructions – Provide clear and concise instructions to guide participants through the challenge.
- Examples and Suggestions – Offer practical applications or variations of the challenge.
- Visuals – Add diagrams, images, or screenshots to enhance clarity and engagement.
